Sunshine Falls Vacation Home is located in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado past Lake City & Lake San Cristobal (Colorado's Second Largest Natural Lake)
As you pass through Lake City on Highway 149, turn right on the Alpine Loop National Back Country Byway (Hinsdale County Road 30) toward Lake San Cristobal, Colorado's Second Largest Natural Lake.
The Alpine Loop is also known as (AKA) both County Road 30 and the "Silver Thread", for the Silver Rush mining boom that flooded this area with hopeful treasure hunting miners in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Our picturesque road winds the 15 miles along the edge of Lake San Cristobal, and up the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River to Sunshine Falls - keep to your right.
You'll pass through the most beautiful Aspen- and Pine-filled valley with towering 14,000 ft Mountains and Rocky Slopes to one side and the river and thick forest on your other, until you see the Log Entrance and Private Waterfall of Sunshine Falls on the cliffs to your right.
Sunshine Falls is located just before the cutoff road to the old Sherman Mining District Ghost Town, at the base gate of the final climb up to the Cinnamon and Engineers Passes through the divide - just 12 miles from Silverton (over the pass, that is).
